Such an elegant and timeless wedding for an even more elegant and timeless bride.
After the traditional Catholic ceremony set in downtown's St Peter's Cathedral, the celebration continued at the Old Capitol Inn. While working with Elizabeth and her mother, it was plain to see that family, tradition, and their Mississippi roots were all very important and they wanted to share this with their wedding guests. Details were added to the wedding to share a little glimpse of what makes the two families who they are.
Beginning with the entry way at the Old Capitol Inn, the vintage wedding gowns of both the bride and groom's grandmothers were displayed (and their mothers had also each worn their mother's gowns on their wedding day.) Wedding day portraits of each of the four women accompanied the dresses, along with the bride's bridal portrait in the center.
Then, as the guests traveled through the hallway to enter the ballroom, they were greeted
with an art gallery style display of black and white photographs, chronicling the bride and groom's courtship and engagement.
Another one of my favorite details was the groomscake: the yellow house recreated by
The Cake Diva. This house was special to the bride & groom as they used to drive by regularly and Elizabeth would speak of one day living in a house like this. So, when Adams began to think of a special and creative way to propose, he decided to knock on the door!! After introducing himself and telling the owners all about Elizabeth's love for their house and the upcoming proposal... they gave him a KEY!! So, when the day came, and like many times before, they casually drove by the yellow house, this time...Adams suggested they stop! Naturally surprised, Elizabeth hesitated, thinking her boyfriend had probably lost his mind ;) But they stopped, walked up to the house, then peaked in, and then... Adams opened the "unlocked" door!! Much to Elizabeth's protesting (quickly replaced by amazement) she saw the candles and rose petals and then Adams was down on bended knee inside!! What a sweet, thoughtful and very very brave guy! Needless to say, she said "YES" and the wedding would not have been complete without the presence of the yellow house at the reception. Guests also loved the boxes of Mississippi Cheese Straws in honor of the bride's family business and the fresh donut holes that were butler passed as guests were ready to leave.
